Kunming Stone Forest

 
The Stone Forest is known as "One of the Earth's Natural Wonders." 

The Stone Forest is located in Shilin County, 85 kilometers southeast of Kunming. Covering a few hundred square kilometers, stone peaks rise abruptly from the ground in numerous layers like bamboo shoots, forests and pagodas.

We got there later on in the day just as the sun was setting so this made for great pictures and fewer people, it’s a very big area and you could speed a good few hrs exploring the rock formations, having a panic etc (you are allowed to be of the grass) if you have kids, this is a great place to let them run around.
 
Its really hard to give you a sense of scale about the place, its a very large site, you will find crowds around all the main entrance ways at peak times, but the place is big enough to find you own space.

The rock formations are interesting and all have a unique look about them, I posted a few pictures but really it’s hard to capture the scale and size of the place.

On the road going to and from the Stone Forest, there is a local minority theme restaurant, it’s a little cheesy but the food is good and it’s has a nice clean toilet. It’s a good stop for a quick lunch or dinner

Overall, worth the trip out to see it
